4 million 712 thousand people in employment, unemployment rate at 4.3%

In July 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 712 thousand. The number of unemployed persons was 211 thousand and the unemployment rate was 4.3%.1

Employment, May–July 2025

In the period May–July 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 681 thousand, 30 thousand fewer than a year earlier. The number of employed people was down by 24 thousand among males, being 2 million 477 thousand, while among females it remained essentially unchanged at 2 million 203 thousand.2

4 million 506 thousand people worked in the domestic primary labour market, 41 thousand fewer than in the same period of the previous year. The number of public workers was 69 thousand, while that of people working abroad was 105 thousand.2

The employment rate for 15-64 year-olds was practically unchanged compared to the same period of the previous year at 75.3%, with a simultaneous decrease in the population and employment. This rate was 79.1% for men and 71.4% for women.2

Unemployment, May–July 2025

In the May–July period of 2025 the number of unemployed people aged 15–74 was 212 thousand, with an unemployment rate of 4.3%.2

The number of unemployed was 113 thousand for males and 100 thousand for females. The rate was 4.3% for both sexes, practically the same as in May–July of the previous year.2

The average duration of job search was 11.5 months, 42.5% of all unemployed had been looking for a job for less than 3 months, while 29.2% had not found a job for at least a year.

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered job seekers at the end of July 2025 decreased by 1.4% to 221 thousand compared to a year earlier.
