4 million 676 thousand people in employment, unemployment rate at 4.4%

In August 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 676 thousand. The number of unemployed persons was 215 thousand and the unemployment rate was 4.4%.1

Employment, June–August 2025

In the period June–August 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 679 thousand, 36 thousand fewer than a year earlier. Among males, the number of employed people was down by 21 thousand to 2 million 479 thousand, while among females it decreased by 15 thousand to 2 million 200 thousand.2

4 million 503 thousand people worked in the domestic primary labour market, 50 thousand fewer than in the same period of the previous year. The number of public workers was 72 thousand, while that of people working abroad was 105 thousand.

The employment rate for 15-64 year-olds was practically unchanged compared to the same period of the previous year at 75.4%, with a simultaneous decrease in the population and employment. This rate was 79.2% for men and 71.5% for women.2

Unemployment, June–August 2025

In the June–August period of 2025 the average number of unemployed people aged 15–74 was 217 thousand, with an unemployment rate of 4.4%.2

The number of unemployed was 115 thousand for males and 102 thousand for females. The rate was 4.4% for both sexes, practically the same as in June–August of the previous year.2

The average duration of job search was 11.1 months, 45.6% of all unemployed had been looking for a job for less than 3 months, while 29.6% had not found a job for at least a year.

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered job seekers at the end of August 2025 decreased by 1.0% to 222 thousand compared to a year earlier.
