4 million 669 thousand people in employment, unemployment rate at 4.5%

In September 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 669 thousand. The number of unemployed persons was 218 thousand and the unemployment rate was 4.5%.1

Employment, July–September 2025

In the period July–September 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 679 thousand, 29 thousand fewer than a year earlier. The number of employed people was down by 21 thousand among males, being 2 million 470 thousand, and among females down to 2 million 209 thousand.2

4 million 504 thousand people worked in the domestic primary labour market, 41 thousand fewer than in the same period of the previous year. The number of public workers was 72 thousand, while that of people working abroad was 103 thousand.

The employment rate for 15-64 year-olds was practically unchanged compared to the same period of the previous year at 75.4%, with a simultaneous decrease in the population and employment. This rate was 78.8% for men and 71.9% for women.2

Unemployment, July–September 2025

In the July–September period of 2025 the average number of unemployed people aged 15–74 was 221 thousand, with an unemployment rate of 4.5%.2

The number of unemployed was 120 thousand for males and 101 thousand for females. The rate was 4.6% for men and 4.4% for women, practically the same as in July–September of the previous year.2

The average duration of job search was 11.2 months, 45.6% of all unemployed had been looking for a job for less than 3 months, while 29.3% had not found a job for at least a year.

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered job seekers at the end of September 2025 decreased by 3.6% to 220 thousand compared to a year earlier.
