4 million 624 thousand people in employment, unemployment rate at 4.4%

In December 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 624 thousand. The number of unemployed persons was 211 thousand and the unemployment rate was 4.4%.1

Employment, October–December 2025

In the period October–December 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 642 thousand, 46 thousand fewer than a year earlier. The number of employed people was down by 24 thousand to 2 million 457 thousand among males, while among females it decreased by 23 thousand to 2 million 186 thousand.

4 million 457 thousand people worked in the domestic primary labour market, 58 thousand fewer than in the same period of the previous year. The number of public workers was 78 thousand, while that of people working abroad was 108 thousand.

The employment rate for 15-64 year-olds was practically unchanged compared to the same period of the previous year at 74.8%, with a simultaneous decrease in the population and employment.2 This rate was 78.5% for men and 71.1% for women.2

Unemployment, October–December 2025

In the October–December period of 2025 the number of unemployed people aged 15–74 was 213 thousand, while the unemployment rate was 4.4%.2

The number of unemployed was 116 thousand for males and 97 thousand for females. The rate was 4.5% for men and 4.3% for women.2

The average duration of job search was 12.7 months, 39.1% of all unemployed had been looking for a job for less than 3 months, while 36.2% had not found a job for at least a year.

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered job seekers at the end of December 2025 decreased by 2.2% to 216 thousand compared to a year earlier.
