Economic performance 0.6% higher in 3rd quarter 2025 than in 3rd quarter 20241
The volume of Hungary’s gross domestic product was 0.6% higher according to both raw data and seasonally and calendar adjusted and reconciled data in the 3rd quarter of 2025 than in the corresponding period of the previous year. Compared to the previous quarter, the economic performance stagnated according to seasonally and calendar adjusted and reconciled data. In quarters 1–3 of 2025, GDP was 0.3% higher according to raw data and 0.2% higher according to seasonally and calendar adjusted and reconciled data than in the same period of 2024.
In 3rd quarter 2025:
The volume of GDP was 0.6% higher according to both raw and seasonally and calendar adjusted and reconciled data than in the same period of the previous year. The volume indices published in the second estimate are unchanged compared to the flash estimate.
Production approach:
The value added of construction was 2.6% higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year. Industry reduced its performance by 1.7%, within which manufacturing by 0.8%. Among manufacturing branches, the largest contributor to the narrowing in the performance was the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, while the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products slowed the fall in industry the most. The value added of agriculture was 6.2% lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The gross value added of services rose by 1.5% in total. The highest increase (3.8%) occurred in financial and insurance activities. The value added of accommodation and food service activities grew by 3.0% and those of professional, scientific, technical and administrative activities and education both by 2.9%. The performance of wholesale and retail trade was up by 2.6%, that of human health and social work activities by 2.3% and the performance of information and communication by 1.7%. The value added of transportation and storage was 0.4% higher than a year earlier. The performance of arts, recreation and other service activities diminished by 0.1%, that of real estate activities by 0.3% and the performance of public administration by 0.6%.
The largest positive contributor to the 0.6% increase in gross domestic product in the 3rd quarter of 2025 was the performance of services (by 0.9 percentage point), within which mainly professional, scientific, technical and administrative activities and wholesale and retail trade (both by 0.2 percentage point). The performance of construction helped the growth by 0.1 percentage point, while that of industry lowered the performance of the economy by 0.3 and the performance of agriculture by 0.2 percentage point. The balance of taxes and subsidies on products raised the volume of GDP by 0.1 percentage point.
Expenditure approach:
The actual final consumption of households was 1.9% higher than in the same period of the previous year. Household final consumption expenditure, representing the largest proportion of the components of the actual final consumption of households, rose by 2.6%. The (domestic) consumption expenditure of households realised on the territory of Hungary became 3.2% higher. The volume of domestic consumption expenditure increased in all durability groups: by 8.2% in the case of durable goods, by 4.1% for semi-durable goods, by 2.3% in the case of non-durable goods and by 2.6% for services.
The volume of social transfers in kind from the government became 1.6% and that of the actual final consumption of the government 6.3% lower. The volume of social transfers in kind from non-profit institutions serving households (NPISHs) increased by 1.0%.
As a result of the above trends, actual final consumption rose by 0.6%.
Gross fixed capital formation was 3.0% lower in the 3rd quarter than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The volume of investments in construction lessened, while that of investments in machinery and equipment rose.
Gross capital formation became 11.5% larger compared to the same period of the previous year.
As a result of the trends of consumption and of capital formation, domestic use as a whole grew by 3.9% in the 3rd quarter.

In the external trade of the economy, a surplus of 1,045 billion forints was generated at current prices. The volume of exports lessened by 0.6%, while that of imports became 3.9% higher. In trade in goods, accounting for almost 80% of external trade, exports diminished by 0.8%, while imports rose by 6.5%. Within the external trade of the economy, the exports of services (including tourism) were down by 0.8% and their imports by 7.4% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Actual final consumption contributed by 0.4 percentage point and gross capital formation by 3.5 percentage points to the 0.6% growth in gross domestic product in the 3rd quarter of 2025, while the balance of external trade as a whole slowed the economic performance by 3.3 percentage points.

The performance of the economy stagnated.
From the production approach, the performance of agriculture went up by 1.0% and those of industry and services both by 0.3%. The performance of construction decreased by 4.0%.
From the expenditure approach, the volume of household final consumption expenditure rose by 0.5%, while that of social transfers in kind from the government and the volume of the actual final consumption of the government diminished by 0.3% and 1.3%, respectively, out of the components of actual final consumption. Gross fixed capital formation fell by 0.4%. In external trade, the volume of imports became 2.9% and that of exports 0.4% higher.
