Industrial production lessened by 2.6% year-on-year and by 1.3% compared to the previous month

The volume of industrial production lagged behind the one year earlier level by 2.6% in May 2024. The working day adjusted index is equal to the non-adjusted one. Setbacks were measured in the great majority of manufacturing subsections, at the same time, production volume grew in the manufacture of transport equipment, having the largest weight, and in that of computer, electronic and optical products. According to seasonally and working-day adjusted data, industrial output was 1.3% lower than in April 2025.

In May 2025:

The volume of industrial production decreased by 2.6% compared to the same period of the previous year. (Compared to the May data published in the first estimate, the data in the second estimate did not change.)

Industrial output in May – according to seasonally and working-day adjusted indices – was 1.3% below the level of the previous month.

The volume of industrial export was 0.7% higher than a year earlier. The manufacture of transport equipment export, representing a 33% weight within export sales in manufacturing rose by 3.7%, the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products export, accounting for a 13% weight, grew by 1.9%.

Domestic sales of industry decreased by 8.0%, those of manufacturing declined by 9.0% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Within industry, production dropped by 2.7% in the decisive weight (96%) representing manufacturing, it fell by 7.4% in the small weight representing mining and quarrying, at the same time output grew by 6.9% in the energy industry (electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply).

Output volume in the largest weight representing manufacture of transport equipment, having a 27% share in manufacturing, increased by 6.0% compared to the same month of the previous year. Motor vehicles manufacturing grew by 9.4%, the manufacture of parts and accessories for motor vehicles rose by 1.4%.

The manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, accounting for 9.9% within manufacturing output exceeded the level of May 2024 by 1.1%. Considering the two largest groups, the manufacture of electronic components and boards rose by 5.5%, the manufacture of computers and peripheral equipment declined by 4.4%.

The manufacture of electrical equipment, representing a 9.5% weight in manufacturing fell by 4.8%, year-on-year. Out of the two largest weight representing groups production volume in the manufacture of batteries and accumulators grew by 3.0%, while the manufacture of electric motors, generators, transformers and electricity distribution and control apparatus dropped by 8.8%.

The manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products, having a 13% share in manufacturing, was 6.0% lower than in the same month of the previous year, both domestic and export sales fell. Processing and preserving meat and the production of meat products, representing the largest weight (23%), declined by 2.1% compared to May of the previous year. Production decreased between 2.2% and 43% in other five groups, too, most of all in the manufacture of vegetable and animal oils and fats. Output increased in the other five groups, at the highest rate, by 41%, in the small weight representing manufacture of tobacco products, least of all in the manufacture of other food products, by 2.2%.

Out of the two medium weight representing subsections the manufacture of rubber and plastics products and other non-metallic mineral products declined by 4.9%, the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment fell by 7.7% year-on-year.

Following the growth in the previous month the manufacture of coke, and refined petroleum products, accounting for a 3.6% weight within manufacturing, dropped by 4.5%, primarily due to a decrease in domestic sales, at the same time export sales rose.

The manufacture of chemicals and chemical products lagged behind the most, by 17.3% year-on-year, a significant decline was recorded in the great majority of the classes.
