Industrial production lessened by 1.0% year-on-year and grew by 2.0% compared to the previous month

The volume of industrial production lagged behind the one year earlier level by 1.0% in July 2024. The working day adjusted index is equal to the non-adjusted one. Production declined in the majority of the manufacturing subsections. According to seasonally and working-day adjusted data, industrial output was 2.0% higher than in June 2025.

In July 2025:

The volume of industrial production decreased by 1.0% compared to the same period of the previous year. (Compared to the July data published in the first estimate, the data in the second estimate did not change.)

Industrial output in July – according to seasonally and working-day adjusted indices – was above the level of the previous month by 2.0%.

The volume of industrial export was 1.3% lower than a year earlier. The manufacture of transport equipment export, representing a 32% weight within export sales in manufacturing fell by 1.5%, at the same time the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products export, accounting for a 14% weight, went up by 16.2%.

Domestic sales of industry decreased by 5.3%, those of manufacturing declined by 1.7% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Within industry, production lessened by 0.5% in the decisive weight (96%) representing manufacturing, dropped by 8.5% in the small weight representing mining and quarrying, and fell by 7.2% in the energy industry (electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply).

Output volume in the largest weight representing manufacture of transport equipment, having a 26% share in manufacturing, rose by 0.1% compared to the same month of the previous year. Motor vehicles manufacturing decreased by 1.8%, the manufacture of parts and accessories for motor vehicles declined by 2.3%.

The manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, accounting for 12% within manufacturing output exceeded the level of July 2024 by 28%. Considering the two largest groups, the manufacture of computers and peripheral equipment went up by 60%, at the same time the manufacture of electronic components and boards decreased by 2.7%.

The manufacture of electrical equipment, representing a 9.4% weight in manufacturing fell by 8.3%, year-on-year. Out of the two largest weight representing groups production volume in the manufacture of batteries and accumulators dropped by 20%, while the manufacture of electric motors, generators, transformers and electricity distribution and control apparatus grew by 6.8%.

The manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products, having a 14% share in manufacturing, was 1.3% higher than in the same month of the previous year, at the same time both domestic and export sales declined. Processing and preserving meat and the production of meat products, representing the largest weight (23%), rose by 1.3% compared to July of the previous year. Production grew in other seven groups, too, least of all, by 0.3% in the manufacture of prepared animal feeds, most of all, by 38% in the small weight representing manufacture of tobacco products. Output decreased between 4.7% and 29% in the other three groups, at the highest rate in the manufacture of vegetable and animal oils and fats.

Out of the two medium weight representing subsections the manufacture of rubber and plastics products and other non-metallic mineral products declined by 4.2%, the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment dropped by 7.3% compared to the same month of the previous year.

The manufacture of chemicals and chemical products accounting for a 4.2% weight within manufacturing fell by 14.4%, primarily due to a considerable drop in the manufacture of basic chemicals, fertilisers and nitrogen compounds, plastics and synthetic rubber in primary forms representing a 75% share within the subsection.

The manufacture of coke, and refined petroleum products lagged behind the most, by 20%, year-on-year, sales decreased in both directions.

Industrial output grew in three regions, and declined in five, year-on-year. The highest volume growth was observed in the Northern Great Plain (12.2%), the most significant decrease (11.1%) was registered in Budapest.

The volume of total new orders in the observed divisions of manufacturing was 3.3% lower compared to July 2024. New domestic orders rose by 4.7%, new export orders fell by 4.6%. The total stock of orders at the end of July was below the previous year’s level by 7.3%.

In January–July 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year:

Industrial production dropped by 3.5%. The volume of export sales, representing 64% of all sales declined by 1.5%, domestic sales, accounting for 36% of all sales, decreased by 3.6%.

Out of the thirteen manufacturing subsections production fell in eleven, to the greatest extent, by 13.8%, in the manufacture of electrical equipment. The output of the manufacture of transport equipment, the largest subsection, declined by 2.9%. Production volume grew in two subsections: by 8.2% in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, and by 3.1% in the manufacture of wood and paper products, and printing.
