Industrial production increased by 1.3% both year-on-year and compared to the previous month

The volume of industrial production exceeded the one year earlier level by 1.3%, while based on working-day adjusted data it declined by 1.5% in September 2025, year-on-year. Production declined in the majority of the manufacturing subsections. According to seasonally and working-day adjusted data, industrial output was 1.3% higher than in August 2025.

In September 2025:

The volume of industrial production increased by 1.3% compared to the same period of the previous year. (Compared to the September data published in the first estimate, the data in the second estimate did not change.)

Industrial output– according to seasonally and working-day adjusted indices – was above the previous month’s level by 1.3%.

The volume of industrial export was 0.9% lower than a year earlier. The manufacture of transport equipment export, representing a 30% weight within export sales in manufacturing declined by 3.6%, the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products export, accounting for a 17% weight, went up by 32%.

Domestic sales of industry decreased by 5.1%, those of manufacturing rose by 0.6% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Within industry, production grew by 1.5% in the decisive weight (96%) representing manufacturing, increased by 5.2% in the energy industry (electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply), and fell by 5.6% in the small weight representing mining and quarrying.

Output volume of the largest weight representing manufacture of transport equipment, having a 25% share in manufacturing, decreased by 1.4% compared to the same month of the previous year. Motor vehicles manufacturing rose by 0.8%, the manufacture of parts and accessories for motor vehicles declined by 6.9%.

The manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, accounting for 14% within manufacturing output exceeded – at the highest rate out of the subsections –the level of September 2024 by 41%. Considering the two largest groups, the manufacture of computers and peripheral equipment went up about two and half times, at the same time the manufacture of electronic components and boards dropped by 17.7%.

The manufacture of electrical equipment, representing an 8.8% weight in manufacturing lagged behind the one year earlier level by 14.2%. Out of the two largest weight representing groups production volume in the manufacture of batteries and accumulators fell by 25%, the manufacture of electric motors, generators, transformers and electricity distribution and control apparatus dropped by 11.0%.

The manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products, having a 14% share in manufacturing, was 1.8% higher than in the same month of the previous year, both domestic and export sales rose. Processing and preserving meat and the production of meat products, representing the largest weight (22%), grew by 5.3% compared to September of the previous year. Production increased between 0.2% and 19,7% in eight other groups, too, most of all in the very small weight representing processing and preserving of fish, crustaceans and molluscs, least of all in the manufacture of beverages. Output fell in two groups only: in processing and preserving of fruit and vegetables, by 5.1%, and in the manufacture of vegetable and animal oils and fats, by 11.7%

Out of the two medium weight representing subsections the manufacture of rubber and plastics products and other non-metallic mineral products decreased by 0.8%, the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment declined by 0.7% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Contrary to the decrease in the previous month, the manufacture of wood and paper products, and printing having a 3.6% share in manufacturing grew by 7.4%.

Out of the subsections the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, medicinal chemical and botanical products, having a small weight, lagged behind the most, by 17.8% year-on-year, sales dropped in both directions.

Industrial output increased in four regions and fell in other four, year-on-year. The highest volume growth was observed in Central Transdanubia (22%), the most significant decline (9.7%) was registered in Pest region.

The volume of total new orders in the observed divisions of manufacturing was 2.5% higher compared to September 2024. New domestic orders rose by 4.5%, new export orders grew by 2.5%. The total stock of orders at the end of September was below the previous year’s level by 1.0%.

In January–September 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year:

Industrial production dropped by 3.4%. The volume of export sales, representing 64% of all sales declined by 2.3%, domestic sales, accounting for 36% of all sales, decreased by 4.2%.

Out of the thirteen manufacturing subsections production fell in eleven, to the greatest extent, by 13.3%, in the manufacture of electrical equipment. The output of the manufacture of transport equipment, the largest subsection, declined by 4.4%. Production volume grew in two subsections: by 13.2% in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, and by 2.8% in the manufacture of wood and paper products, and printing.
