Industrial production dropped by 2.5% year-on-year and grew by 1.5% compared to the previous month
The volume of industrial production declined by 2.5%, while based on working-day adjusted data it increased year-on-year by 0.3% in January 2026. A production setback occurred in the great majority of the manufacturing subsections. According to seasonally and working-day adjusted data industrial output was 1.5% higher than in December 2025.
In January 2026:
The volume of industrial production fell by 2.5% compared to the same period of the previous year. (Compared to the January data published in the first estimate, the data in the second estimate did not change.)
Industrial output– according to seasonally and working-day adjusted indices – was above the previous month’s level by 1.5%.
The volume of industrial export was 0.5% higher than a year earlier. The manufacture of transport equipment export, representing a 31% weight within export sales in manufacturing rose by 1.3%, the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products export, accounting for a 18% weight, went up by 9.5%.
Domestic sales of industry decreased by 2.8%, those of manufacturing fell by 7.9% compared to the same month of the previous year.
Within industry, production declined by 2.6% in the decisive weight (93%) representing manufacturing, fell by 45% in the small weight representing mining and quarrying, at the same time output grew by 6.7% in the energy industry (electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply).

Output volume of the largest weight representing manufacture of transport equipment, having a 26% share in manufacturing, decreased by 0.2% compared to the same month of the previous year. Motor vehicles manufacturing grew by 3.4%, the manufacture of parts and accessories for motor vehicles dropped by 3.1%.
The manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, accounting for 14% within manufacturing output, increased by 17.4%. Considering the two largest groups, the manufacture of computers and peripheral equipment went up by 90%, at the same time the manufacture of electronic components and boards fell by 27%.
The manufacture of electrical equipment, representing a 10,0% weight in manufacturing exceeded by 10.4% the low base level of January 2025. Out of the two largest weight representing groups production volume in the manufacture of batteries and accumulators grew by 27%, the manufacture of electric motors, generators, transformers and electricity distribution and control rose by 10.7%.
The manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products, having a 13% share in manufacturing, was 5.3% lower than in the same month of the previous year, both domestic and export sales fell. Processing and preserving meat and the production of meat products, representing the largest weight (24%), dropped by 4.3% compared to January of the previous year. Production decreased between 5.2% and 24% in other seven groups, too, least of all in the manufacture of vegetable and animal oils and fats, most of all in the very small weight representing processing and preserving of fish, crustaceans and molluscs. Output increased between 0.7% and 39% in the other three groups, to the greatest extent in the manufacture of tobacco products, least of all in the manufacture of prepared animal feeds.
Out of the two medium weight representing subsections the manufacture of rubber and plastics products and other non-metallic mineral products fell by 12.2%, the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment declined by 1.0% compared to the same month of the previous year.
A decrease is going on since April 2025 in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products, representing a 4.4% weight in manufacturing: the output in January was 27% lower than in the same month of the previous year, a significant decline was recorded in the great majority of the classes.
Out of the subsections the manufacture of coke, and refined petroleum products, having a 2.4% share in manufacturing, lagged behind the most, by 33%, year-on-year, sales dropped remarkably in both directions.
