The deficit as a proportion of GDP was 4.2% in the 3rd quarter and 1.9% altogether in the first three quarters

The deficit of the general government sector in the 3rd quarter was HUF 909 billion, 4.2% of GDP. The balance is HUF 95 billion, or 0.2 percentage points less favourable than a year earlier.

In the 1st–3rd quarters of 2025 the deficit of the central government amounted to HUF 1366.6 billion, while local governments and social security funds showed HUF 116.9 and 30.8 billion surpluses. The central government’s deficit in the 3rd quarter of 2025 was HUF 831.6 billion, that of local governments HUF 19.8 billion, of the social security funds’ was HUF 57.3 billion.

In the 3rd quarter of 2025 compared to the same period of 2024:

The general government sector’s deficit was HUF 909 billion, 4.2% of GDP. The balance became HUF 95 billion or 0.2 percentage points less favourable than in the previous year.

Revenues increased by HUF 529 billion (by 6.3%).

Expenditures rose by HUF 624 billion (by 6.8%).

In the 1st–3rd quarters of 2025:

According to preliminary data, the deficit of the general government sector in the 1st–3rd quarters of 2025 was HUF 1,219 billion, 1.9% of GDP.

The general government sector’s revenues were HUF 27,585 billion and its expenditures HUF 28,804 billion.

In the 1st–3rd quarters of 2025, compared to the same period of 2024:

The balance improved by HUF 1,142 billion, or by 2 percentage points as a proportion of GDP compared to the same period of the previous year.

Revenues increased by HUF 2,241 billion or by 8.8%. The largest increase, of HUF 794 billion (7.8%), were in taxes on production and on import revenues. Income tax revenues increased by HUF 624 billion (13.8%) year-on-year. Social contributions were HUF 569 billion (9.2%) higher than a year earlier. Other revenues grew by HUF 253 billion (5.7%).

Expenditures increased by HUF 1,100 billion, or by 4.0%. The growth was HUF 617 billion (10%) in compensation of employees, social benefits other than social transfers in kind rose by HUF 446 billion (6.7%). Intermediate consumption surpassed by HUF 164 billion (3.4%), other general government sector expenditures by HUF 389 billion (by 7.5%) the same period of 2024 values. Interest expenditures went down by HUF 432 billion (14.4%). Gross capital formation lagged behind the same period of 2024 value by HUF 85 billion (4.5%).
