Live birth: (according to the recommendation of the UN) a foetus is live-born if it shows any sign of life after birth (e.g. respiration, heart functioning or pulsation of umbilical cord), regardless of the length of pregnancy and the length of life after birth.
Total fertility rate: expresses how many children a woman would give birth to during her life at the birth frequency by age of the given year.
Death: final cessation of all signs of life at any time after live birth, i.e. cessation of all life functions without the capability of revival.
Marriage: contracted before the registrar acting officially in the presence of two witnesses.
Infant death: death after live birth and before the completed age of one year. Stillborn infants and those deceased on the anniversary of birth are not counted among infant deaths.
Natural increase (decrease): the difference between live births and deaths.
Population number: is calculated on the basis of the population census; for further calculation, we take into account the data of natural vital events (live births, deaths) statistics and international migration. The previously estimated population number is published once a year in the first release of vital events data for the January–December period.
Sources of data: vital events data collection implemented in accordance with Section 30 of Act CLV of 2016, and, in accordance with its Section 28, data transfers from the Electronic Register System.
