Total value of output of agriculture grows by 6.2%

The value of the output of the agricultural sector was above 4.4 thousand billion forints in 2025, which was 6.2% more than a year earlier. The contributors to the growth were a 10% rise in the total producer price level and a 2.5% increase in the volume of livestock production. The volume of output fell by 3.6% in agriculture, within which by 8.7% in crop production.

Early and late spring frosts, the lack of precipitation, and atmospheric and soil droughts in the summer held back crop production, mainly the development of root crops and the flowering and pollination of fruit trees, on the one hand, and, through animal feeding stuff production, kept back livestock production, too, on the other hand. Animal diseases occurring over the year again – e.g. foot-and-mouth disease and avian influenza –, corn fodder price rise and market competition influenced production controversially: the volume of cattle and poultry keeping slightly lessened, by contrast, pig production and the production of animal products such as milk and eggs came into the limelight. The increased supply surplus of pigs for slaughter resulted in a similar rate of decrease in the producer price.

In 2025 compared to previous year, according to preliminary data:
