The surplus of the external trade in services in the 2nd quarter was EUR 3.1 billion
Service exports calculated in EUR increased by 2.4%, imports lessened by 3.4% in the 2nd quarter of 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year. The surplus reached EUR 3.1 billion, EUR 423 million higher than in the 2nd quarter of 2024. The export value improved by 15%, that of import by 4.6%, generating an EUR 896 million surplus compared to the previous quarter.
In the 2nd quarter of 2025:
The value of exports amounted to EUR 9.0 billion (HUF 3.6 thousand billion), that of imports to EUR 5.9 billion (HUF 2.4 thousand billion). The surplus of the external trade in services added up to EUR 3.1 billion (HUF 1.3 thousand billion).
Among service groups, travel services contributed with EUR 992 million, transport services with EUR 871 million, business services with EUR 653 million to the surplus of the 2nd quarter of 2025.
64% of our service exports, 73% of our service imports were transacted with EU member states, generating a surplus of EUR 1.4 billion in this relation.
Germany remained our primary trading partner, accounting for 20% of the total turnover. The United States ranked second, followed by Austria in the third place; their share in services trade amounted to 8.1% and 7.8%.
The proportion of business services was 43% of the total service exports (including 22% for other business services), transport services also had a significant share, 26%, as well as travel services with 22%.
In imports, too, business servicesdominated , with a 54% share (including 27% for other business services), while transport services accounted for 25%, travel for 17% of total import turnover.
In the 2nd quarter of 2025, year-on-year:
The value of service exports in EUR terms increased by 2.4% (by 5.8% in HUF terms), while imports decreased by 3.4% (0.3% in HUF terms). The surplus exceeded the same period of the previous year’s level by EUR 423 million (HUF 205 billion).
The surplus increase was primarily driven by a growth in the balance of business services (EUR 311 million), as well as of travel (EUR 83 million).
In the turnover with the EU member states, our surplus grew by 25% (EUR 286 million), primarily due to the surplus growth of EUR 435 million with Germany. It is also important to highlight the EUR 45, 38 and 37 million decrease in the balances with Italy, Ireland and Malta.
In the case of non-EU countries, the surplus increased by EUR 136 million, representing 8.9%. The most significant improvement was realised with the United Kingdom (EUR 68 million), and the United States (EUR 45 million).
January–June 2025:
The value of export amounted to EUR 17 billion (HUF 6.8 thousand billion), that of import to EUR 11 billion (HUF 4.6 thousand billion).

The value of export decreased by 0.5% (EUR 77 million) that of import by 3.0% (EUR 358 million).
