The number of tourism nights increased by 3.1% and that of tourist arrivals by 11% compared to a year earlier
In June 2024, 1.8 million guests spent nearly 4.2 million tourism nights at tourist (commercial, private and other) accommodation establishments1. The number of arrivals was 11% and tourism nights 3.1% higher than a year earlier. The number of nights spent by domestic guests fell by 2.2%, also due to the school year lasting a week longer this year, while international tourism nights rose by 9.4%. In January-June 2024, domestic guests spent 3.0% and international guests 12% more tourism nights in tourist accommodation establishments than in the same period of the previous year.

Overall, the number of arrivals and tourism nights spent in tourist accommodation establishments grew by 11% and 3.1% respectively. 69% of tourism nights were at commercial accommodation establishments, where turnover was 1.6% higher than a year earlier. Private and other accommodation establishments registered 6.5% more tourism nights than a year earlier.
The number of domestic tourist arrivals increased by 4.8% and that of domestic tourism nights fell by 2.2% compared to the same month of the previous year. The summer school holidays started a week later this year than in 2023, which also affected the number of domestic tourism nights. Domestic tourist arrivals numbered 972 thousand and domestic tourism nights 2.1 million at tourist accommodation establishments, within which commercial accommodation establishments registered 679 thousand tourist arrivals and 1.5 million tourism nights. 64% of the latter were spent at hotels, where the number of tourism nights was 2.3% higher than a year earlier. The number of domestic tourism nights spent at private or other accommodation establishments was down by 2.9% compared to June 2023. The number of domestic tourism nights decreased in all tourism areas2 compared to the same period last year, with the largest decreases in the regions of Tokaj and Nyíregyháza (13%) and Győr-Pannonhalma (12%). The number of nights spent by domestic guests in tourist accommodation increased by 5.7% in Budapest and declined by 1.8% at Lake Balaton.
The number of international arrivals increased by 19% and international tourism nights by 9.4% compared to the same month last year. The 825 thousand international guests having arrived at tourist accommodation establishments spent 2.0 million tourism nights there, of which commercial accommodation establishments registered 584 thousand guests and 1.4 million tourism nights, respectively. 79% of the latter were spent at hotels, where the number of international tourism nights was 10% higher than a year earlier. The number of international tourism nights spent at private or other accommodation establishments grew by 19% compared to June 2023. The number of international tourism nights increased the most in the Sopron tourism area (by 4.7%), and decreased the most in the Gyula region (by 14%) compared to the same period of the previous year. The number of international tourism nights spent in tourist accommodation establishments increased by 17% in Budapest and by 3.7% at Lake Balaton.
A total of 30,794 tourist accommodation establishments, within which 2,899 commercial and 27,895 private or other accommodation establishments welcomed guests.
Of commercial accommodation establishments, 1,004 hotels and 1,165 boarding houses were open for part or all of June.
The total gross sales revenues of tourist accommodation establishments amounted to HUF 95 billion, which was 14% higher at current prices than a year earlier.
Széchenyi Recreation Card was used by cardholders to spend HUF 3.8 billion, 4.0% more at current prices, at tourist accommodation establishments compared to the same month of the previous year.

Tourist accommodation establishments registered a total of 17.8 million tourism nights, up 7.6%.
Domestic guests and international guests spent 3.0% and 12% more tourism nights respectively (8.5 million and 9.3 million) in tourist accommodation establishments.
