Number of tourist arrivals (1.6 million) up 8.3% year-on-year and tourism nights (3.8 million) up 5.6%
In September 2025, 1.6 million guests spent 3.8 million tourism nights at tourist (commercial, private and other) accommodation establishments1. Tourist arrivals were up by 8.3% and tourism nights by 5.6% in number compared to a year earlier. In January-September 2025, the number of domestic and international guests arriving to tourist accommodation establishments was 2.2% and 11% higher than in the same period of the previous year.
In September 2025:
Overall, the number of tourist arrivals increased by 8.3% and that of tourism nights spent at tourist accommodation establishments by 5.6%. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of arrivals expanded by 9.1% and that of tourism nights by 5.3% compared to September 2024. 71% of guests arrived at commercial accommodation establishments, where their number grew by 7.5% from the previous year. Private and other accommodation establishments recorded 10% more tourist arrivals than a year earlier.
The number of domestic tourist arrivals and of domestic tourism nights were 5.3% and 3.3% higher respectively than in the same month of the previous year. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of domestic arrivals grew by 3.9% and that of domestic tourism nights by 3.3% compared to September 2024. The 781 thousand domestic guests spent nearly 1.7 million tourism nights at tourist accommodation establishments, within which commercial accommodation establishments registered 572 thousand tourist arrivals and 1.2 million tourism nights. Hotels received 72% of the latter arrivals, where their number grew by 5.8% compared to a year earlier. The number of domestic tourist arrivals in private and other accommodation was 4.2% higher than in September 2024. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the number of domestic arrivals increased the most in the Sopron region2 (by 17%), while it decreased only in the Gyula region (by 2.9%). The number of domestic arrivals to tourist accommodation establishments was 16% higher in Budapest and 2.1% higher at Lake Balaton.
The number of international tourist arrivals was up by 11% and that of international tourism nights by 7.5% compared to the same month of the previous year. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of international arrivals grew by 12% and that of international tourism nights by 6.5% compared to September 2024. The 861 thousand international guests having arrived at tourist accommodation establishments spent 2.1 million tourism nights there, of which commercial accommodation establishments registered 591 thousand tourist arrivals and nearly 1.5 million tourism nights. Hotels received 83% of the latter arrivals, where their number was 6,6% higher than a year earlier. The number of foreign tourist arrivals in private and other accommodation establishments was 15% higher than in September 2024. Compared to the same month last year, the number of international arrivals increased in all tourism regions, most significantly (by 19%) in Greater Budapest. The number of international arrivals to tourist accommodation was 12% higher in Budapest and 18% higher at Lake Balaton.
A total of 28,913 tourist accommodation establishments, within which 2,759 commercial and 26,154 private or other accommodation establishments welcomed guests.
Of commercial accommodation establishments, 1,011 hotels and 1,108 boarding houses were open for part or all of September.
The total gross sales revenue of tourist accommodation establishments amounted to HUF 103.7 billion, 6.2% more at current prices than a year earlier.
Széchenyi Recreation Card was used by cardholders to spend HUF 2.4 billion, 2.2% less at current prices compared to the same month of the previous year, at tourist accommodation establishments.

Tourist accommodation establishments recorded a total of 15.1 million tourist arrivals, up 6.4%.
The number of domestic and international tourist arrivals was up by 2.2% and 11% respectively (7.6 million and nearly 7.5 million) in tourist accommodation establishments.
