Number of tourist arrivals (1.4 million) down 1.0% year-on-year and tourism nights (3.3 million) down 4.0%
In April 2026, 1.4 million guests spent 3.3 million tourism nights at tourist (commercial, private and other) accommodation establishments1. Tourist arrivals were down by 1.0% and tourism nights by 4.0% in number compared to a year earlier. In January-April 2026, domestic arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments were 3.6% higher than a year earlier, while international arrivals rose by 0.3%.

Overall, the number of tourist arrivals decreased by 1.0% and that of tourism nights spent at tourist accommodation establishments by 4.0%. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of arrivals and tourism nights grew by 2.4% and 0.8% respectively compared to April 2025. 71% of guests arrived at commercial accommodation establishments, where their number grew by 3.0% from the previous year. Private and other accommodation establishments recorded 9.4% fewer tourist arrivals than a year earlier.
The number of domestic tourist arrivals and domestic tourism nights was 3.7% and 0.8% higher respectively than in the same month of the previous year. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of domestic arrivals grew by 4.1% and that of domestic tourism nights by 2.8% compared to April 2025. The 717 thousand domestic guests spent nearly 1.6 million tourism nights at tourist accommodation establishments, within which commercial accommodation establishments registered 510 thousand tourist arrivals and 1.1 million tourism nights. Hotels received 79% of the latter arrivals, where their number grew by 6.5% compared to a year earlier. The number of domestic tourist arrivals in private and other accommodation was 0.7% higher than in April 2025. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the number of domestic arrivals increased the most in the Győr and Pannonhalma region2 (by 12%) and fell the most (by 3.9%) in the Tokaj and Nyíregyháza tourism area. The number of domestic arrivals to tourist accommodation establishments was 9.0% higher in Budapest and 5.0% higher at Lake Balaton.
The number of international tourist arrivals and international tourism nights fell by 5.2% and 8.0% compared to the same month of the previous year, to which the 79% decline in the number of visitors from Israel – which had sent an exceptionally high number of visitors the previous year – contributed significantly. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of international arrivals grew by 0.6% and that of international tourism nights declined by 1.7% compared to April 2025. The 730 thousand international guests having arrived at tourist accommodation establishments spent nearly 1.8 million tourism nights there, of which commercial accommodation establishments registered 513 thousand tourist arrivals and 1.2 million tourism nights. Hotels received 85% of the latter arrivals, where their number hardly changed (+0.1%) from a year earlier. The number of foreign tourist arrivals in private and other accommodation establishments was 17% lower than in April 2025. Compared to the same month last year, the number of international arrivals increased the most in Tokaj and Nyíregyháza tourism area (by 15%) and fell the most in the Szeged region (by 16%). The number of international arrivals to tourist accommodation was 6.8% higher in Budapest and 8.4% lower at Lake Balaton.
A total of 24,436 tourist accommodation establishments, within which 2,470 commercial and 21,966 private or other accommodation establishments welcomed guests.
Of commercial accommodation establishments, 981 hotels and 994 boarding houses were open for part or all of April.
The total gross sales revenue of tourist accommodation establishments amounted to HUF 87,7 billion, 0.5% less at current prices than a year earlier.
Széchenyi Recreation Card was used by cardholders to spend nearly HUF 3.1 billion, 0.3% less at current prices compared to the same month of the previous year, at tourist accommodation establishments.

The number of domestic and international arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments increased by 3.6% and 0.3%, reaching nearly 2.3 million and about 2.5 million respectively.
