Number of tourist arrivals (nearly 2.5 million) down 0.4% year-on-year and tourism nights (6.7 million) up 0.3%
In July 2026, nearly 2.5 million guests spent 6.7 million tourism nights at tourist (commercial, private and other) accommodation establishments1. Tourist arrivals were down by 0.4% and tourism nights up by 0.3% in number compared to a year earlier. In January-July 2026, domestic arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments were 1.9% higher than a year earlier, while international arrivals declined by 0.5%.

The number of tourist arrivals decreased by 0.4% overall, while that of tourism nights grew by 0.3% at tourist accommodation establishments. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of arrivals and tourism nights increased by 0.4% and 2.0% respectively compared to July 2025. 67% of guests arrived at commercial accommodation establishments, where their number grew by 3.9% from the previous year. Private and other accommodation establishments recorded 8.2% fewer tourist arrivals than a year earlier.
The number of domestic tourist arrivals increased by 0.8%, while that of domestic tourism nights decreased by the same proportion compared with the same month of the previous year, meaning that more visitors stayed for a shorter period on average at domestic accommodation establishments. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of domestic arrivals grew by 2.6% and that of domestic tourism nights by 0.8% compared to July 2025. The nearly 1.4 million thousand domestic guests spent 3.8 million tourism nights at tourist accommodation establishments, within which commercial accommodation establishments registered 870 thousand tourist arrivals and around 2.4 million tourism nights. Hotels received 64% of the latter arrivals, where their number grew by 5.8% compared to a year earlier. The number of domestic tourist arrivals in private and other accommodation was 1.1% lower than in July 2025. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the number of domestic arrivals increased the most in the Bük and Sárvár tourism area2 (by 9.3%) and fell the most in the Szeged region (by 3.3%). The number of domestic arrivals to tourist accommodation establishments was 2.8% lower in Budapest and 1.8% higher at Lake Balaton.
The number of international tourist arrivals decreased by 1.9%, while that of international tourism nights increased by the same proportion compared to the same month of the previous year, thus, the fewer foreign visitors typically spent a longer time in Hungary. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of international arrivals fell by 0.7% and that of international tourism nights grew by 3.2% compared to July 2025. The nearly 1.1 million international guests having arrived at tourist accommodation establishments spent 2.9 million tourism nights there, of which commercial accommodation establishments registered 775 thousand tourist arrivals and 1.9 million tourism nights. Hotels received 75% of the latter arrivals, where their number grew by 6.4% from a year earlier. The number of foreign tourist arrivals in private and other accommodation establishments was 17% lower than in July 2025. Compared to the same month last year, the number of international arrivals increased the most in the Greater Budapest region (by 12%) and fell the most in the Szeged region (by 18%). In Budapest, the number of international arrivals at tourist accommodation was down 3.0%, while at Lake Balaton it was down 5.2%. Among the main sending countries, significantly fewer visitors arrived at Lake Balaton from Slovakia, Germany and Czechia than in the previous year.
A total of 35,314 tourist accommodation establishments, within which 2,958 commercial and 32,356 private or other accommodation establishments welcomed guests.
Of commercial accommodation establishments, 1,037 hotels and 1,136 boarding houses were open for part or all of July.
The total gross sales revenue of tourist accommodation establishments amounted to HUF 148.1 billion, 5.8% more at current prices than a year earlier.
Széchenyi Recreation Card was used by cardholders to spend nearly HUF 7.4 billion, 1.1% more at current prices compared to the same month of the previous year, at tourist accommodation establishments.

The number of domestic and international arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments increased by 1.9% and fell by 0.5% respectively, with figures reaching 5.5 million and nearly 5.3 million respectively.
