Prizes of László Buday Statistical History Competition are presented, 02/11/2023
The prizes of the statistical history competition launched by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO), the Hungarian Statistical Association (HSA), HCSO Library, Csányi Foundation and the Local History Alliance on the 150th anniversary of the birth of Statistician Dr László Buday were presented to the winners at a solemn commemorative conference in Pécs.
The results and prizes of the statistical history competition launched by HCSO, HCSO Library, HSA, Csányi Foundation and the Local History Alliance to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Statistician Dr. László Buday were announced and awarded at a commemorative conference. The event took place on 27 October 2023 in Pécs, in the house where Dr. László Buday was born, which is now the community centre for Csányi Foundation.
According to the evaluation of the professional jury, the final result of the application was as follows:
1st place: Zsolt Forgács, an undergraduate student in history at Pázmány Péter Catholic University, with his paper entitled "The contribution of the Hungarian Royal Central Statistical Office and László Buday in the scientific work supporting the peace mission";
Shared 2nd place was awarded to: Bálint Zoltán Thaly, a student of Pázmány Péter Catholic University, specialising in financial law, with his paper entitled "The history of Hungarian censuses (1869–2011)" and Zsófia Trixler,a student of Károli Gáspár Reformed University, majoring in History and German, with her paper entitled "Presentation of László Buday's work entitled The Mutilated Hungary";
3rd place: Zalán Győző,a student of Finance and Accounting at the University of Pécs, with his work entitled "The mutilated Hungary from the perspective of a Finance and Accounting Student".
The conference and award ceremony included greetings by Dr. Miklós Radoszáv, Operational Director of Csányi Foundation, Zoltán Csányi, Spokesperson of HCSO, Rita Kálmán, Director General of HCSO Library and Béla Debreczeni-Droppán, President of the Local History Alliance. Following the opening speeches, presentations were held by Dr János Majdán, Professor Emeritus of the University of Pécs, Zoltán Csányi, Spokesperson of HCSO, Dr Miklós Lakatos, Delegate of HSA, and Balázs Horváth, Head of Department of HCSO Library. The lectures were followed by the presentation of the works. At the end of the event, the participants laid a wreath on the memorial plaque of Dr. László Buday, and then there was an opportunity for an informal, professional exchange of ideas as part of the closing reception.
