European Football Championship – 14 June – 14 July 2024
It was in 1958 that the Union of European Football Associations launched the continent championship, bearing the name European Nations’ Cup in the beginning, and matches of the four-team final phase were organised in France in 1960. The number of participants in the tournament renamed European Championship in 1968 was raised time after time, first to 8, after that to 16 and then to the present-day 24 teams. 33 national teams have qualified at least once for the 16 tournaments organised so far, and 10 teams have won the cup, the Germans and the Spaniards doing so most often (both 3 times).

Both the improvement and the surplus were record-high. The external trade in services registered a HUF 4.2 thousand billion surplus, HUF 690 million more than in 2022, the positive balance set a record in this case, too.

Environmental habits of households
The HCSO conducted, for the first time, an experimental survey in 2023 on environmental habits of households. The questionnaire aimed to learn about households’ approach to environmental issues. The problems posing the most serious threat deemed to be the growing amounts of waste and the low rate of public transport use. Composting is widespread in municipalities and other towns, not so much in towns of county rank and Budapest. 41% of households purchased environmentally friendly products on a regular basis in 2023, families with children are more willing to buy environmentally friendly products.
