Nearly one and a half times more new homes
In the first half of 2017, 5,004 new dwellings were built, 46% more than a year earlier. The number of dwellings to be built based on issued dwelling construction permits and simple declarations was 19,823, 40% more than in the first half of 2016.
In the first half of 2017, compared to the same period of the previous year:
the number of dwellings built was unchanged in Budapest, more than one and a half times higher in towns and almost doubled in villages;
the proportion of dwellings built by individuals increased from 46% to 50%, that of dwellings built by enterprises fell from 54% to 50%;
among the newly built residential buildings, the proportion of detached houses increased from 43% to 46%, that of multi-storey, multi-dwelling buildings grew from 46% to 47%, while that of buildings in residents’ parks fell from 8% to 3%;
the average floor-area of homes put to use increased by 6 sq. m to 95 sq. m;
the total number of homes to be built based on declarations and issued building permits was 19,823, 40% more than in the previous period, the recovery was mainly significant in Budapest and in smaller towns;
based on new construction permits (declarations), 11% more, i.e. a total of 6,841 residential buildings are planned to be built, while the number of permits issued for non-residential buildings (2,431) decreased by 21% compared to the previous year.
