Motor fuel price statistics

HCSO publishes statistics on motor fuel prices in Hungary and in countries in the region weekly from 19 April 2024, and the time series can be downloaded from the Experimental statistics subpage from the first week of 2023. The basis of experimental statistics on motor fuel prices is data from the EU’s Weekly Oil Bulletin, of which HCSO calculates regional average prices for 95 octane petrol and diesel fuel. The new statistics show regional price disparities as for the different countries and Hungary, helping monitoring and comparisons.

Countries in the region: Austria, Bulgaria, Czechia, Croatia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia.

The source of the data for EU member states is the EU’s Weekly Oil Bulletin. The different member states supply the data on the basis of Council Decision 1999/280/ECCouncil Decision of 22 April 1999 regarding a Community procedure for information and consultation of crude oil supply costs and the consumer prices of petroleum products.[1]. Motor fuel price data for Serbia come from the GlobalPetrolPrices.com page. The data for Hungary are supplied to the European Commission by the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH).In compliance with Decree No. 20/2004 (27 February) of the Ministry of Economy and Trade on international data supply on crude oil and oil products.[2]

We publish the forint value of data taken over from the Weekly Oil Bulletin with no change. Detailed information on data for the different countries is available on the homepage of Weekly Oil Bulletin.

The regional average price is calculated without the datum for Hungary, as the arithmetic average of the data for the other nine countries in the region.

The average price in neighbouring countries is calculated without the datum for Hungary, as the arithmetic average of the data for the six surrounding countries without Ukraine.

Updated weekly data will be published regularly, at 8.30 a.m. on Fridays, on the Office’s subpage presenting experimental statistics as well as in the Prices section of the HCSO Monitor interface.
