Welcome to the website of the 103rd DGINS conference!

2017 is an important year in the history of Hungarian official statistics: we are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the foundation of our office.

This is the second time the Hungarian Central Statistical Office has the honour to organise this high-level forum offering an opportunity for fruitful discussions and intense exchanges of views on the most relevant statistical issues.

Social statistics was often in the limelight of DGINS conferences. Within this broad domain, international migration is one where the development of data collection and data processing methods as well as complex statistical analysis is urgent in order to enable the European Statistical System to produce policy-relevant statistics to a broad range of users on migrant populations and on the social, economic and environmental implications of international migration, both for the sending and the receiving countries and regions.

This year’s conference aims to find solutions on how the ESS can better meet and satisfy the statistical challenges of this very complex phenomenon.

Taking into account the many challenges national statistical institutes face the conference will include three substantive sessions to be followed by a panel discussion on the main conclusions. I am convinced that this conference will contribute to improved analyses and describe the impact of migration.

I am looking forward to welcoming you in Budapest in September.
