Housing construction is characterized by different territorial trends
In the first half of 2019, 6,472 new dwellings were built, 0.7% fewer than a year earlier. Based on issued dwelling construction permits and simple declarations, the number of homes to be built increased by 0.9% to 18,227 compared to the first half of 2018.
In the first half of 2019, 8.6% fewer homes were built in Budapest and 7.8% fewer in smaller towns. 10% more dwellings were put to use in towns of county rank and 4.3% more in villages. In Pest County, the number of dwellings built continued to be outstanding, but decreased by 5.9% compared to the same period last year. The number of dwellings built in Győr-Moson-Sopron County increased by 10% (1,156), thus exceeding the total number of dwellings built in Great Plain and Northern Hungary (1,032).
The proportion of dwellings built by individuals fell from 49% to 47%, while that of dwellings built by enterprises increased from 49% to 52%;
51% of dwellings put to use in new residential buildings were in detached houses, 40% in multi-dwelling buildings and 4.2% in resident’s parks.
53% of homes were built for sale, 45% for own use and 2.1% for rent.
The average floor-area of homes put to use decreased by 2 sq. m to 99 sq. m;
According to dwelling construction permits and declarations, the number of dwellings to be built grew by 0.9% to 18,227 nationally, slightly increasing in Budapest, decreasing by 3.2% in county towns and by 5.7% in other towns and increasing by 20% in villages. Builders used simple declarations in 47% of cases. This share was 7.5% in Budapest and increasing towards lower level territorial units it reached 92% in villages.
Based on new construction permits (declarations), 11% more, i.e. a total of 7,486 residential buildings are planned to be built, while the number of permits issued for non-residential buildings was 2,007, 1.3% fewer than a year earlier.
