6,352 children are born and 10,096 people lose their lives in April

According to preliminary data, 6,352 children were born and 10,096 people died in April 2023. The number of births lessened by 2.7% that of deaths by 10% and marriages by 31% compared to April 2022.

In April 2023:

A total of 6,352 children were born, 2.7% or 173 fewer than a year earlier.

10,096 people lost their lives, 10% less or 1,117 fewer than in April 2022.

The natural decrease was 3,744 people, as opposed to 4,688 in April 2022.

3,464 couples got married, which was 31% less or 1,546 fewer than in April 2022.

Between May 2022 and April 2023:

89,749 children were born, 0.2% less or 172 fewer than in the previous twelve months. 5.1% more children were born in January–April this year compared to the same period of 2022, within which the number of births grew by 7.7% in January–March and decreased by 2.7% in April compared to the same months of 2022.

The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.55 per female, compared to 1.54 calculated for the previous twelve months.

There were 131,205 deaths, 10% less or 14,583 fewer than in the previous twelve months. The number of deaths was 9.1% lower in January–April compared to the same period of 2022.

The number of births went down to a lower extent than that of deaths, as a result of which the natural decrease was 41,456, which was 26% lower than the value of 55,867 for the previous twelve months.

58,515 couples got married, 17% less or 11,782 fewer than in the previous twelve months. In the January–April period of this year, 36% less marriages were registered than in the same months of 2022.

There were 9.3 live births and 13.6 deaths per thousand population. The rate of live births was the same as in May 2021–April 2022 while that of deaths 1.5 per mille points lower, as a result of which the rate of natural decrease lessened by 1.5 per mille points to 4.3 per mille. The number of infant deaths was 3.2 per thousand live births, 0.2 per mille points lower than in the previous twelve months. The marriage rate was 6.0 per mille, 1.2 per mille points lower than in the period a year earlier.
