In July, 7,744 children are born and 9,240 people lose their lives

According to preliminary data, 7,744 children were born and 9,240 people died in July 2023. The number of births lessened by 7,0%, that of deaths by 15% and the number of marriages by 29% compared to July 2022. The natural decrease slowed down.

In July 2023:

A total of 7,744 children were born, 7,0% or 583 fewer than a year earlier.

9,240 people lost their lives, 15% or 1,610 fewer than in July 2022.

The natural decrease was 1,496, as opposed to 2,523 in July 2022.

5,682 couples got married, which was 29% or 2,287 fewer than in July 2022.

In January–July 2023:

49,659 children were born, 697 or 1.4% less than in January–July 2022. Within this, the number of live births was 7.6% more in January–March and 7.2% less in April–July compared to the corresponding months of 2022.

The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.51 per female, which was 1.49 a year earlier.

There were 74,066 deaths, 7.9% less or 6,359 fewer than one year earlier. 11% less people died in January–February, 4.3% less in March–June and 15% less in July compared to the same periods of the previous year.

The number of births decreased to a lesser extent than that of deaths, resulting in a natural decrease of 24,407, which was 19% lower than the value of 30,069 for January–July 2022.

26,579 couples got married, 29% or 11,065 fewer than a year earlier. 45% less marriages were registered in January–February, 27% less in March–July than in the corresponding months of 2022.

There were 8.9 live births and 13.3 deaths per thousand population. The rate of live births was nearly equal to that in January–July 2022 while that of deaths 1.0 per mille points lower, as a result of which the rate of natural decrease lessened by 1.0 per mille points to 4.4 per mille. The number of infant deaths was 2.9 per thousand live births in January–July 2023, which was a decrease of 0.3 per mille points compared to the same period of the previous year. The marriage rate was 4.8 per mille, 1.9 per mille points lower than in the same period a year earlier.
