In August, 7,695 children are born and 9,504 people lose their lives

According to preliminary data, 7,695 children were born and 9,504 people died in August 2023. The number of births lessened by 5.3%, that of deaths by 11% and the number of marriages by 17% compared to August 2022. The natural decrease slowed down.

In August 2023:

A total of 7,695 children were born, 5.3% or 428 fewer than a year earlier.

9,504 people lost their lives, 11% or 1,157 fewer than in August 2022.

The natural decrease was 1,809, as opposed to 2,538 in August 2022.

6,586 couples got married, which was 17% or 1,364 fewer than in August 2022.

In January–August 2023:

57,398 children were born, 1,081 or 1.8% less than in January–August 2022. Within this, the number of live births was 7.6% more in January–March, while 2.1% less in April 9.4% less in May–June and 5.9% less in July–August compared to the corresponding months of 2022.

The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.52 per female, which was 1.51 a year earlier.

There were 84,125 deaths, 7.6% less or 6,961 fewer than one year earlier. 11% less people died in January–February, 4.2% less in March–June, and 10% less in July–August compared to the same periods of the previous year.

The number of births decreased to a lesser extent than that of deaths, resulting in a natural decrease of 26,727, which was 18% lower than the value of 32,607 for January–August 2022.

33,162 couples got married, 27% or 12,432 fewer than a year earlier. 45% less marriages were registered in January–February, 31% less in March–April, 25% less in May–July and 17% less in August than in the corresponding months of 2022.

There were 9.0 live births and 13.2 deaths per thousand population. The rate of live births was nearly equal to that in January–August 2022 while that of deaths 1.0 per mille points lower, as a result of which the rate of natural decrease lessened by 0.9 per mille points to 4.2 per mille. The number of infant deaths was 3.0 per thousand live births in January–August 2023, which was a decrease of 0.3 per mille points compared to the same period of the previous year. The marriage rate was 5.2 per mille, 1.9 per mille points lower than in the same period a year earlier.
