In October, 7,089 children are born and 10,706 people lose their lives

According to preliminary data, 7,089 children were born and 10,706 people died in October 2023. The number of births lessened by 5.9%, that of deaths by 6.7% and the number of marriages by 9.6% compared to October 2022. The natural decrease slowed down.

In October 2023:

A total of 7,089 children were born, 5.9% or 444 fewer than a year earlier.

10,706 people lost their lives, 6.7% or 769 fewer than in October 2022.

The natural decrease was 3,617, as opposed to 3,942 in October 2022.

4,261 couples got married, which was 9.6% or 451 fewer than in October 2022.

In January–October 2023:

71,778 children were born, 1,999 or 2.7% less than in January–October 2022. Within this, the number of live births was 7.7% more in January–March, while it was 2.1% less in April, 9.3% less in May–June, and 6.0% less in July–October compared to the corresponding months of 2022.

The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.52 per female, which was 1.53 a year earlier.

There were 104,404 deaths, 7.5% less or 8,451 fewer than one year earlier. 11% less people died in January–February, 4.2% less in March–June, and 8.7% less in July–October compared to the same periods of the previous year.

The number of deaths decreased to a greater extent than that of births, resulting in a natural decrease of 32,626, which was 17% lower than the value of 39,078 for January–October 2022.

44,372 couples got married, 24% or 13,633 fewer than a year earlier. 45% less marriages were registered in January–February, 31% less in March–April, 23% less in May–August and 9.7% less in September–October than in the corresponding months of 2022.

There were 9.0 live births and 13.1 deaths per thousand population. The rate of live births was 0.2 per mille points and that of deaths 0.9 per mille points lower than in January–October 2022, as a result of which the rate of natural decrease lessened by 0.8 per mille points to 4.1 per mille. The number of infant deaths was 3.1 per thousand live births in January–October 2023, which was a decrease of 0.3 per mille points compared to the same period of the previous year. The marriage rate was 5.6 per mille, 1.6 per mille points lower than a year earlier.
