According to preliminary data, 5,696 children were born and 9,639 people died in May 2025. The number of births lessened by 10% and that of deaths by 2.3%, while the number of marriages increased by 2.5% compared to the same month of the previous year.
In May 2025:
A total of 5,696 children were born, 10% or 654 fewer than in May 2024.
9,639 people lost their lives, 2.3% or 226 fewer than a year earlier.
The natural decrease was 3,943, as opposed to 3,515 in May 2024.
5,645 couples got married, 2.5% or 135 more than a year earlier.
In January–May 2025:
29,018 children were born, 9.0% or 2,863 fewer than in the same period of the previous year. Within this, the number of live births was 4.2% lower in January, 8.6% lower in February–March and 12% lower in April–May than in the same periods of 2024.
The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.27 per female, compared with 1.37 a year earlier.
There were 55,062 deaths, 3.1% or 1,638 more than one year earlier. 7.8% more people died in January, 0.7% more in February, 7.1% more in March and 0.9% more in April, while 2.3% less in May than in the same months of the previous year.
Due to the balance of births and deaths, the natural decrease was 26,044, 21% more than the value of 21,543 for the same period of the previous year.
15,745 couples got married, 3.2% or 520 fewer than a year earlier. 4.3% less marriages were registered in January, 14% less in February and 3.9% less in March–April, while 2.5% more in May than in the corresponding months of 2024.
There were 7.4 live births and 14.0 deaths per thousand population. The rate of live births was 0.7 per mille point lower, while that of deaths 0.5 per mille point higher than in January–May 2024. The rate of natural decrease increased by 1.2 per mille points to 6.6 per mille. The number of infant deaths was 3.2 per thousand live births, which was 0.9 per mille point lower than in the same period of the previous year. The marriage rate was 4.0 per mille, 0.1 per mille point lower than a year earlier.
