According to preliminary, estimated data, 6,020 children were born and 10,811 people died in December 2025. The number of births lessened by 4.9% and that of deaths by 7.8%, while the number of marriages rose by 13% compared to the same month of the previous year.
In December 2025:
A total of 6,020 children were born, 4.9%, or 309 fewer, than in December 2024.
10,811 people lost their lives, 7.8%, or 910 fewer, than a year earlier.
The natural decrease was 4,791, as opposed to 5,392 in December 2024.
2,271 couples got married, 13%, or 261 more, than a year earlier.
There were 7.5 live births and 13.4 deaths per thousand population. The live birth rate was 0.4 per mille points lower and the death rate 1.1 per mille points lower than in December 2024. The natural decrease per thousand population diminished by 0.7 per mille points to 5.9. There were 2.8 marriages per thousand population, 0.3 per mille points higher than a year earlier.
In 2025:
According to preliminary, estimated data, 72,000 children were born, 7.1% or 5,511 fewer, than in the same period of the previous year. There were 35.1 live births per thousand females aged 15–49 years, 5.2% fewer than a year earlier.Within the year, the number of live births was 8.9% lower in January–May, 1.7% lower in June–July, 8.2% lower in August–November and by a more moderate 4.9% lower in December compared to the same periods of the previous year.
The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.31 per female, compared with 1.39 a year earlier.
The estimated number of deaths amounted to 124,200, 2.6%, or 3,270 fewer, than one year earlier. 3.5% more people died in January–June and 8.4% fewer in July–December than in the same periods of the previous year.
Due to the balance of births and deaths, the estimated natural decrease was 52,200, 4.5% more than the value of 49,959 for the same period of the previous year.
According to preliminary data, 46,600 couples got married. The decline in the number of marriages observed over several years came to a halt: in 2025, 0.1% or 39 more marriages were registered than a year earlier. 6.1% fewer marriages were registered in January–April and 7.8% fewer in June–August, while 2.4% more in May and 13% more in September–December than in the same periods of 2024.
There were 7.6 live births and 13.1 deaths per thousand population. The live birth rate was 0.5 per mille points lower and the death rate 0.3 per mille points lower than in January–December 2024. The rate of natural decrease increased by 0.3 per mille points to 5.5 per mille. The infant mortality rate was 3.3 per thousand live births, 0.5 per mille points lower than in the same period of the previous year. The marriage rate was 4.9 per mille, nearly the same as a year earlier.
The positive balance of international migration slightly reduced the natural decrease of the population; as a result, the estimated number of the resident population, updated on the basis of the 2022 census, was 9,489 thousand at the end of 2025.
