Motor fuel price statistics, May 2025

Based on data in the Weekly Oil Bulletin, published by the EU, the average price of 95-octane petrol was 584 forints in Hungary in the month of May, which was 5 forints or 0.8% lower than the average of 589 forints for neighbouring countries. In countries in the region, the average price in May was 568 forints, the price in Hungary being 2.8% or 16 forints higher. Compared to the figure for the previous month, the average price of 95 petrol was cut by 5 forints in Hungary. In parallel, the averages observed for neighbouring countries and for countries in the region lessened, too, both by 17 forints.
The monthly average price of diesel motor fuel was 584 forints in Hungary, which was 4 forints or 0.7% lower than the average of 588 forints for neighbouring countries. The average domestic price of diesel motor fuel was 19 forints or 3.4% higher than the regional average price of 565 forints. Compared to the figure for the previous month, the monthly average diesel oil price in Hungary lessened by 16 forints. The average observed for neighbouring countries decreased by 25 forints and that observed for countries in the region by 23 forints compared to April data.
Out of the countries in the region, the average petrol price in May was higher in Austria, Croatia, Serbia and Slovakia than in Hungary. Compared to the figure for the previous month, it went down the most, by 27 forints in Slovenia.
The average price of 95-octane petrol was less than 5% lower in Romania and Slovenia, 5–10% lower in Czechia and Poland and more than 15% lower in Bulgaria than in Hungary.
The average diesel oil price in May was higher in Austria, Serbia and Slovenia than the value in Hungary, however, it was over 15% lower in Bulgaria. Compared to the figure for the previous month, the average price of diesel decreased in all countries in the region, and the largest reduction of 33 forints was recorded for Slovenia.
