Motor fuel price statistics, August 2025

Based on data in the Weekly Oil Bulletin, published by the EU, the average price of 95-octane petrol was 583 forints in Hungary in the month of August, which was 6 forints or 1.0% lower than the average of 589 forints for neighbouring countries. In countries in the region, the average price in August was 568 forints, the price in Hungary being 2.6% or 15 forints higher. Compared to the figure for the previous month, the average price of 95 petrol was cut by 2 forints in Hungary. In parallel, the averages observed for neighbouring countries and for countries in the region lessened, too, by 2 and 5 forints, respectively.
The monthly average price of diesel motor fuel was 593 forints in Hungary, which was 4 forints or 0.7% lower than the average of 597 forints for neighbouring countries. The average domestic price of diesel motor fuel was 20 forints or 3.5% higher than the regional average price of 573 forints. Compared to the figure for the previous month, the monthly average diesel oil price in Hungary lessened by 10 forints. The averages observed for neighbouring countries and for countries in the region both decreased by 12 forints compared to July data.
Out of the countries in the region, the average price of petrol in August was higher in Austria, Croatia, Serbia and Slovakia than in Hungary. Compared to the figure for the previous month, the average price went down the most, by 14 forints in Croatia.
The average price of 95-octane petrol was less than 5% lower in Czechia, Romania and Slovenia, 7% lower in Poland and more than 15% lower in Bulgaria than in Hungary.
The average price of diesel oil in August was higher in Austria, Romania and Serbia than the value in Hungary, however, it was over 15% lower in Bulgaria. Compared to the figure for the previous month, the average price of diesel decreased in all countries in the region, except Romania, and the largest reduction of 36 forints was recorded for Croatia.
