Notification of balance and debt of the general government sector (first EDP notification in 2022)

The deficit of the general government sector was HUF 3,743 billion, 6.8% of GDP in 2021 based on preliminary data of national accounts. According to data produced in compliance with the methodological requirements of the system of national accounts (ESA 2010) the revenue of the general government sector was HUF 22,735 billion and its expenditure HUF 26 478 billion. Compared to 2020 revenues increased by 8.5% and expenditures by 7.1%.

The debt of the general government sector at the end of 2021 – based on data of the National Bank of Hungary – was HUF 42,414 billion, 76.8% of GDP. Debt data corresponds with that issued in the first release Balance of general government sector, year 2021 and 4th quarter of 2021 published on 1 April 2022. Deficit grew by HUF 7 billion, and remained the same as a proportion of GDP.

HCSO reported the data to Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the EU, in compliance with the Regulation on the excessive deficit procedure (EDP), according to the methodological requirements of the European System of Accounts (ESA 2010).
