Nearly 90% of passenger cars advertised on the used car market are worth less than HUF 10 million
Figure 1
In the domestic used car market in October 2025, the distribution of advertisements by price range was as follows: 37.8% of the passenger cars offered were worth less than HUF 2.5 million, 27.6% were worth between HUF 2.5–5 million, 22.1% belonged to the price category of HUF 5–10 million, and 12.5% were above HUF 10 million. Compared to October 2024, the share of ads offering a car for less than HUF 2.5 million decreased by 3.8 percentage points, while the share of ads for between HUF 2.5 and 5 million increased by 1.1 percentage points. Compared to the same period last year, the share of ads between HUF 5–10 million increased by 2.5 percentage points and the share of ads above HUF 10 million increased by more than 0.3 percentage points. Taking all ads into account, the average asking price was HUF 5,600,000 in October this year and HUF 5,400,000 in the same period of the previous year.
Petrol cars account for almost half of the used car market
Figure 2
According to advertisements on the internet market for second-hand cars in October, almost 50% (54,520 units) of the cars offered were petrol cars and 41.1% (45,510 units) were diesel cars. Hybrid vehicles (petrol and diesel combined) accounted for 4.4% (4,860 units), electric for 5.1% (5,640 units) and other1 vehicles for 0.2% (240 units). Compared to October 2024, there were 1,860 more used cars available. Compared to the same period last year, the number of electric cars in the selection of Használtautó.hu increased by 31.8%, hybrid cars increased by 9.2%, while other types stagnated. In addition, the number of petrol cars increased by 0.9% respectively, but diesel cars decreased by 0.8%.
Diesel cars covered on average more than 40% more kilometres than petrol cars
Figure 3
There is a positive relationship between the age of used cars and the number of kilometres driven. In terms of mileage, there is a large difference between the two main fuel types. The average mileage of advertised petrol cars was 155,000 km and that of diesel cars 220,000 km, i.e. diesel cars covered 41.9% more kilometres than petrol cars. The average age of the advertised petrol cars was 13.7 years and that of the diesel cars 12.2 years. The number of kilometres driven by diesel cars advertised in October grew by 0.9% while petrol cars vehicles stagnated compared to the same period in the previous year. The average age of diesel passenger cars increased by 0.8% over a year, while decrease is 0.7% for petrol cars.
Hybrid cars are currently the most expensive on the used car market
Figure 4
Looking at the average price of used cars by drive system, we see that hybrid cars are currently the most expensive on the market (average price in October 2025: HUF 11,910,000), with a 1.0% decrease in one year. In contrast, the price of electric vehicles has fallen by 6.1% in one year. The price of petrol and diesel cars changed at similar rates over the period under review, with average prices close to each other. Diesel cars were 5.6% more expensive than petrol cars on average in the months observed. Of the five categories observed, vehicles in the other categories were the cheapest.
The data for the month of October show that several factors influence the price of used cars.2
All other things being equal, a petrol car loses 6.9% of its value every year, while a diesel car loses 7.9%, electric car loses 7.7%, 6.4% for hybrids and 6.2% for other passenger cars.
Every thousand kilometres driven reduces the price of a car by 0.2%.
While a 100 cc increase in displacement increases the value of a car by 3.4%, a 10 kW increase in power increases the value by 3.7%.
Compared to cars in normal condition, those in excellent condition are on average 22.1% more expensive, those in spared condition 11.5% more expensive, those in undamaged condition 20.0% more expensive and those in nearly new condition 23.8% more expensive than the benchmark. The price of damaged, faulty cars is on average 60.2% lower on the same benchmark.

The average age of the 10 most popular brands is 11.7 years
Figure 6

They are followed by Ford and Mercedes-Benz at 12.0–12.2 years, then Toyota and Audi, which are on average 11.4–11.7 years old. Based on October data, the last three brands are well-separated by average age: BMW at more than 10.9 years, Škoda at approximately 10.0, and finally the youngest player, Kia, at 9.2 years in the Használtautó.hu database.
The 10 most popular brands have an average asking price of HUF 5,870,000
