Motor fuel price statistics, February 2026

Based on data in the Weekly Oil Bulletin, published by the EU, the average price of 95-octane petrol was 557 forints in Hungary in the month of February, which was 5 forints or 0.9% lower than the average of 562 forints for neighbouring countries. In countries in the region, the average price in February equalled 541 forints, the price in Hungary becoming 3.0% or 16 forints higher. Compared to the figure for the previous month, the average price of 95 petrol increased by 2 forints in Hungary. In parallel, the averages observed for neighbouring countries and for countries in the region rose, too, by 3 and 1 forint, respectively.

The monthly average price of diesel motor fuel was 577 forints in Hungary, which was 5 forints or 0.9% lower than the average of 582 forints for neighbouring countries. The average domestic price of diesel motor fuel was 20 forints or 3.6% higher than the regional average price of 557 forints. Compared to the figure for the previous month, the monthly diesel oil price level in Hungary increased by 7 forints. The average was up by 9 forints in neighbouring countries and by 5 forints in countries in the region compared to January values.

Out of the countries in the region, the average price of petrol in February was higher in Austria, Romania, Serbia and Slovakia than in Hungary. Compared to the figure for the previous month, the average price increased the most, by 7 forints in Romania.

The average price of 95-octane petrol was less than 5% lower in Croatia and Slovenia, 5–10% lower in Czechia and Poland and more than 15% lower in Bulgaria than in Hungary.

The average price of diesel oil in February was higher in Austria, Romania and Serbia than the value in Hungary, however, it was over 15% lower in Bulgaria. Compared to the figure for the previous month, the average price of diesel increased in all countries in the region, except Bulgaria and Poland, and the largest growth of 14 forints was recorded for Croatia.
