Volume change in construction output in the member states of the European Union, July 2025
Released: 2 October 2025
Construction output volume in the European Union was 0.6 percent higher than one month earlier, and 3.6% higher than in July 2024. Compared to the latter, based on available working day adjusted data1, production volume grew in the majority of the member states, however in the two decisive countries from construction output point of view, France and Germany, it decreased. Romania and Slovenia registered an outstanding, over 20% increase, as did Spain, in the fourth consecutive month in the latter. Growth took place in all four Visegrad countries, 10.2% in Czechia, 8.8% in Slovakia, 4.9% in Hungary, 0.6% in Poland.
Construction performance surpassed the one month earlier level by 0.8% in Hungary in July 2025, based on seasonally and working day adjusted data.
Production increased in both main construction groups, by 5.7% in the construction of buildings, by 4.7% in civil engineering. (Elements of transport infrastructure and complex industrial facilities belong to the latter.) Specialised construction, the largest weight representing division in construction registered a 15.4% relapse, at the same time the production volume in construction of buildings was 46.1% higher, specialised construction 12.5% above the one year earlier level. The volume of new contracts concluded fell by 48.9% compared to the very high base of the previous year. The volume of the end of July stock of contracts at construction enterprises was 1.9% higher year-on-year, within it contracts for the construction of buildings lessened by 9.7%, those for civil engineering grew by 9.3%.
Based on the Euroconstruct estimate construction performance may increase annually in Hungary by 1.7% in 2025, while in the case of Germany, Italy and Austria analysts predict a decline.
