Volume change in industrial production in the Member States of the European Union, May 2025

The volume of industrial production, based on calendar adjusted data, grew by 3.4% in the European Union in May 2025, year-on-year. Industrial output was larger in the majority of the member states compared to the previous year, the largest growth occurring in Ireland (40.7%). (In case of Ireland multinational concerns registered there may sometimes generate outstanding values.) Finland and Sweden followed in the ranking, with growths of 5.9% and 5.0%. The largest decrease occurred in Belgium and Bulgaria (−7.3% and −6.5%).
Based on calendar adjusted data the May 2025 production volume was below the one year earlier level by 2.6% in Hungary1. Considering the Visegrad countries industrial performance grew by 2.2% in Czechia, by 2.3% in Poland, and lessened by 4.1% in Slovakia.
Industrial output lessened by 1.3% in Hungary and increased by 1.5% in the EU as a whole compared to the previous month. The volume decrease of the industrial production in our country was almost identical with that of Austria.
The volume of the May 2025 industrial production lagged behind the one year earlier level by 2.6% in Hungary, based on unadjusted data. Production volume decreased in the majority of manufacturing subsections, most of all in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (by 17.3%). Among the largest weight representing subsections output grew by 6.0% in the manufacture of transport equipment, and lessened in a similar degree in the food industry, year-on-year. Beside the manufacture of transport equipment production volume grew in the electronics industry, too, (by 1.1%), the other subsections registered decreases between 2.2% and 7.7%.
According to the prognosis of Trading Economics2 industrial production is going to grow in Hungary, quarterly by 2.7%–4.0%, year‑on‑year, in the period between the 3rd quarter of 2025 and the 2nd quarter of 2026.
