National accounts of Hungary, 2023 (2nd preliminary data)

Hungary’s gross domestic product (GDP) at current prices was HUF 75,086.6 billion in 2023, decreasing by 0.9% at constant prices compared to the previous year. The amount of gross domestic product per capita was HUF 7.8 million, or EUR 28,770 in purchasing power standard. The deficit of the general government sector was HUF 5,035.1 billion, or 6.7% of GDP in 2023 according to the preliminary data of national accounts.

This publication contains the second preliminary data on the national accounts of Hungary for 2023, and final data for 2022, which were compiled in accordance with the ESA2010 methodology, introduced in 2014. During the current calculations, benchmark revisionsBenchmark revisions are major revisions carried out at least once every five years to incorporate new data sources, changes in international methodology and country-specific methodological developments. They ensure consistent and coherent changes in data, with the longest possible time series.[1] were carried out, in line with the EU recommendation on the revision policy of national accountsCMFB revision policy for bop_iip and national accounts.[2]. The description and numerical impacts of the main changes implemented during benchmark revisions are presented in the Methodological notes.

In addition to benchmark revisions, routine revisions were also made, i.e. the corrections of errors found during the checking and finalisation of data, the results of compiling supply and use tables for 2022 and changes in data sources used for the calculations were included.

At the time of compiling preliminary national accounts included in our present publication for 2023, the data sources for 2023 necessary for the calculations were not fully complete, therefore, all data for 2023 are preliminary ones, the finalised data may differ from these. Data for 2023 contain, in addition to the effect of methodological changes, the differences between quarterly and annual calculations.

Further detailed data will be issued on 1 October on HCSO website, under the Data, publications menu item, on the Summary tables (STADAT) subpage, as well as in the dissemination database. The quarterly time series will also be updated on 1 October.
