HCSO statement on erroneous press reports

Untrue allegations have appeared in some media that Eurostat may have launched an investigation into the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO). The reports are incorrect. Eurostat has not launched an investigation.

As regards statistical methodology, it is important to note that Eurostat is in constant consultation with the statistical offices of all Member States, in accordance with international standards, legislation and past practice. It is also essential that the methodology of the HCSO is in line with the European Statistical Directives (in particular the European Commission Implementing Regulation 2020/1148 and Eurostat's HICP Methodological Manual).

We respectfully ask members of the press to check the veracity of any statements published for partisan political purposes before publication.
