Agricultural census
Censuses have traditions in Hungary. The first harvest survey was conducted in 1868, the first crop production survey in 1871, the first livestock survey in 1884, the first orchard census in 1956-59 and the first vineyard census in 1961-63. Data of regular statistical data collections introduce nearly 150 years of agriculture.

In Hungary the plantations maintained for market purpose and covered by such permanent crops as apple, pear, apricot and peach trees, must be enumerated in every five years according to the law which is compulsory for the member states of the European Community. In this way – just like in 2007 – in 2012 a survey was carried out by filling out questionnaires with data on this plantations mentioned above. |
Survey of the apple, pear, peach and apricot plantations, 2007
The implementation of the census on vineyards and orchards in 2001 established the condition for carrying out basic surveys in every five years based on EU requirements. As a Member State, Hungary has met this claim with the survey implemented in 2007 for the first time. In 2007 Hungary was obliged to implement the survey on areas and users of four indicated fruit species (apple, pear, peach and apricot). |
