    In Quarter IV, 2011, fewer road traffic accidents involving personal injury occurred on public roads than in the same period of the previous year. The outcome of accidents was more serious: the number of fatal accidents was up by 6 percent. At the same time, both the number of accidents with serious injury and the number of alcohol-related accidents significantly decreased.

    In Quarter III, 2011 the number of accidents was down by 8% compared to the same period in the previous year. The outcome of accidents was less serious: the numbers of fatal accidents and accidents with serious injury decreased to a wider and the number of accidents with slight injuries to a smaller extent. The number of alcohol-related accidents decreased significantly, by 22%.

    In the first half of 2011, the performance expressed in freight tonne kilometres - mainly due to international transport - grew by 3%, while the volume of goods transported fell by 4% compared with the same period a year ago. In interurban passenger transport, both the number of passengers and the performance expressed in passenger kilometres stagnated. Passenger traffic at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport grew by 12% to 4 million persons.

    In Quarter I, 2011 the number of accidents was on the level of the same period in the previous year. The outcome of accidents was less serious: the number of fatal accidents decreased by 18%, the number of accidents with serious injury was down by 3% and the number of accidents with slight injuries was up by 4%. 3% more accidents were caused on motorways than a year before. Due to accidents, 130 persons lost their life on public roads, 28 persons fewer than a year before.

    The trend line of accidents has been decreasing since 2006. In the year 2010 the number of accidents was down by 9% compared to the previous year. The outcome of accidents was also favourable: the number of fatal accidents decreased by 14%, and the number of accidents with serious injury was down by 11%. 6% more accidents were caused on motorways than in 2009. Due to accidents, 739 persons lost their life on public roads, 83 persons fewer than a year before.
