    In 2011 the gross domestic product of Hungary - according to a common flash estimate of the HCSO and Ecostat, using a restricted information base - rose by 1.7%. Among the sectors the output of agriculture and industry were 10% and 5.4% higher respectively than in 2010. In contrast the output of construction showed a decrease of 7.8%, within which the number of newly built dwellings fell by 39%.

    In January-November 2011 industrial production was 5.6% higher than one year before, while the output of construction decreased by 8.8%. The value of external trade in goods in the first eleven months of the year, calculated in EUR, was 12% more than in the base period, the volume of retail trade turnover remained unchanged, and the number of tourism nights spent at public accommodation establishments diminished by 1.3%.

    The gross domestic product of Hungary in the first three quarters of the year was 1.8% higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year, growth in the third quarter reached 1.4%. Among sectors the gross value added by agriculture in the first nine months was 27%, while the gross output of industry in the period of January-October 5.8% more than one year earlier. In contrast, the performance of construction declined by 10%.

    The gross domestic product of Hungary in the first three quarters was 1.8% higher than in the same period of the previous year, and growth in the third quarter was equal to 1.4%. Among the sectors the gross output of industry in the period of January-September was 6.2% higher than one year earlier, the euro value of international trade in goods was 14% more than in the base period. The output of construction lessened by 11%, the number of new dwellings fell by 38%.

    The gross output of industry calculated for the period of January-August was 6.7% higher than in the same period of the previous year, and the euro value of international trade in goods was 15% higher than in the corresponding period of 2010. The output of construction fell by 11%. The retail trade turnover practically stagnated, while the number of tourism nights spent at public accommodation establishments showed a decrease of 2.1%.

    The economic performance of Hungary was 1.9% higher in the first half of the year than one year earlier. Among sectors the gross output of industry calculated for the period of January-July was 7.0% higher than in the corresponding period of last year, and the euro value of external trade in goods was some 16% more than in the same period of 2010. The output of construction fell by 11%.

    In line with global economic processes the economic growth of Hungary in the second quarter was lower than in the previous quarters. According to a preliminary flash estimate the economic performance was 1.5% and 2.0% higher in the second quarter and in the firs half-year as a whole, respectively, than one year earlier.

    In the first five months of the year, the volume of industrial production grew by 10%, the euro value of external merchandise trade increased by about one fifth, and the surplus of the external trade balance continued to grow. The output of construction fell by 8%. The turnover of public accommodation establishments rose by 4%, the volume of retail trade turnover stagnated.

    The latest available data of April-May indicate in most of the cases the continuation of the trends observed for the first quarter. In the first four months of the year the volume of industrial production increased by 11%, the euro value of external merchandise trade expanded by some one-fifth, and the surplus on merchandise trade went on rising. The output of construction fell by approximately one-tenth.

    In quarter one the gross domestic product - according to a preliminary flash estimate - increased by 2.4% compared to the same period of the previous year. The recovery of external merchandise trade continued: the euro value of exports was up by 23%, while that of imports grew by 22%. As a result of the rise of export sales industrial production was 12% higher than one year before, while the output of construction decreased by 7.0%.

    In the first months of 2011 most economic indicators show the continuation of trends observed in the previous year. In the first two months of the year the volume of industrial production rose by 14 %, while data on external merchandise trade reflect considerable acceleration both in exports and imports: the euro value of exports increased by 27 %, while that of imports by 25 %. The output of construction was 3.9 % lower than one year earlier.

    The latest available data of January-February 2011 indicate the continuation of the previous year's trends in most of the areas. In the first month of the year the volume of industrial production increased by 13%, in external merchandise trade the euro value of exports by 26% and that of imports by 30%, the balance of merchandise trade showing a surplus of EUR 401 million. The output of construction was 4.2% lower than one year before.

    According to the common flash estimate of HCSO and Ecostat the gross domestic product ex-panded by 2.0% in quarter 4 and by 1.2% in the year as a whole. Industrial production was the engine of the growth, increasing by 10.5%. In external trade the value of merchandise exports and imports was up by 21% and 19%, respectively, and the surplus of merchandise trade rose to EUR 5.6 billion. The number of tourist arrivals at public accommodation establishments rose by 1.9% on average over the year.
