STAT WARS of this year is kicking off – digital economy in focus, 08/09/2025

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) is announcing this fall, for the 12th time, the STAT WARS national statistical team contest for secondary school students. The goal of the competition is to offer for students a playful and gripping approach to the world of statistics and to demonstrate how many curiosities may be hidden behind the numbers. Participation is free of charge, the deadline for entries is midnight 5 October 2025.

Applications for STAT WARS XII, for secondary school students are expected from 4-student teams in two age groups: from classes 9-10 as well as from classes 11 and higher. “Digital Society” is the main topic of this year’s contest. Participating teams may explore, through diverse and gripping assignments how everyday digital phenomena are reflected in statistics. Following 3 online turns the best 10 – 10 teams of each age group are entering the finals, which is going to be organised in the Palace of Statistics in February 2026. The winners are going to be awarded with valuable prizes, and the teams on the first and second places are going to represent Hungary in the European Statistics Competition organised by Eurostat.
