The best in tertiary education are competing once again – the STAT WARS UNI contest of this year is kicking off, 22/09/2025

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) is organising this fall, for the 8th time, the national STAT WARS UNI team contest for tertiary BA, MA, MSc students. Participation is free of charge, the deadline for entries is 5 October 2025 midnight.

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office is organising jointly with the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) and the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (HEA) the Stat Wars Uni national statistical team contest for students in the tertiary BA, MA, MSc education. Organizers are expecting max. 3-student teams. Participants may test their knowledge in processing and representing economic, social and territorial data series.

The solving of assignments is going to be evaluated by a committee of professors from renowned Hungarian universities as well as specialists from the HCSO, MNB and HEA. The competition consists of 3 online turns followed by the finals where participants will be competing in person. The finals will take place on 15 December 2025 at the Statistical Palace, the Budapest headquarters of the HCSO.

Five BA/BSc, MA/MSc student-teams, reaching the highest scores are going to compete in the finals. The three most successful teams will be selected and awarded notable cash prizes. The team in the first place will receive a gross amount of 1 050 000 HUF, the one in the second place gross 750 000 HUF, the one in the third place gross 600 000 HUF, distributed equally among the team members.
