Never before have so many people been curious about the Palace of Statistics, 23/09/2025
The Cultural Heritage Days program at the Hungarian Central Statistical Office attracted enormous interest
The main building of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) and the HCSO Library attracted a record number of visitors this year on the occasion of Cultural Heritage Days. A total of 305 visitors viewed the institution during the event, which was held on September 20–21, 2025. The historic building was inaugurated nearly 130 years ago, in December 1897, and thanks to continuous maintenance, it still displays its original splendour to visitors.
On September 20–21, as part of the national Cultural Heritage Days program series, the HCSO once again opened its doors to the public. The visitors could get a glimpse into the history of the nearly 130-year-old architectural masterpiece designed by Győző Czigler, as well as learn about the beginnings of Hungarian statistical science and the work of its most prominent representatives. Guests were able to explore the decorative spaces and elegant corridors of the historic building on guided tours in Hungarian and English, while listening to exciting stories and behind-the-scenes secrets about the institution's past and daily operations.
The record attendance not only highlighted the importance of the event, but also underscored that the architectural richness and historical atmosphere of the Palace of Statistics, as well as the time-honoured scientific authority of the institution operating within its walls, attract more and more interested visitors every year.
