Experimental Statistics and Innovation at the HCSO – New Data, New Approaches, 25 November 2025, 26/11/2025
Press Breakfast at the Hungarian Central Statistical Office
On 25 November 2025, Dr. Áron Kincses, President of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO), together with Deputy Presidents Dénes Ádám and Dr. Tamás Tóth, Presidential Advisor Dr. Rita Kelemen, Department Heads András Zsolt Szabics and Viktor Jáger, and Section Head Krisztina Kollár, welcomed members of the media at a press breakfast.
The HCSO is firmly committed to continuous innovation, methodological development, and the application of cutting-edge data science technologies. A tangible outcome of this commitment is the publication of experimental statistics since early 2024. These statistics present phenomena from new perspectives and are designed to respond swiftly to emerging user needs. Alongside these, AI-driven developments—such as the “Virtual Hungary” project—were also central themes of the press breakfast held on 25 November 2025.
During the professional presentation, Viktor Jáger, Head of the Methodology and Innovation Department of the HCSO, outlined the objectives, methodological features, and innovative approaches of experimental statistics. He emphasized that experimental statistics rely on new methods, sources, and measurement solutions: “the term ‘experimental’ signals the presence of innovation,” he noted. His lecture illustrated how these initiatives create space for development and modernization, while offering participants insights into ongoing innovative projects at the HCSO, AI-based solutions, and the modernization of statistical operations.
By publishing new datasets, the HCSO enables users to access information at an early stage of development and contribute to its refinement through feedback.
The press breakfast is organized quarterly by the Office, with the aim of establishing a lasting tradition.
