HCSO and the University of Debrecen Strengthen Cooperation in Education and Research & Development, 03/06/2026

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) and the University of Debrecen have signed a cooperation agreement. Under this partnership, the Office will provide professional support to university students and researchers; in addition, the parties will launch joint projects in areas including the application of artificial intelligence.

As part of the agreement, the HCSO will offer professional support to students and researchers at the university. Besides, the parties will launch joint projects in fields such as the application of artificial intelligence, data science, and the development of experimental statistics. The HCSO will also provide consultations to assist students in preparing their theses and Scientific Students’ Associations (TDK) papers.

As a precursor to the cooperation with the university, representatives of the Office visited Debrecen in November 2025 as part of a professional programme, where they gained insight into the educational programmes, scientific initiatives, and innovative student start-ups operating at the Faculty of Information Technology. The university delegation returned the visit at the HCSO headquarters in Budapest in January 2026. During their professional discussions, the parties agreed to broaden their cooperation in several specific areas. The agreement now signed marks an important milestone in this process.

The HCSO is committed to expanding and continuously deepening its professional relationships with higher education institutions. Agreements concluded with universities contribute to strengthening statistical education and culture, enhancing data literacy and analytical skills, promoting scientific dialogue, and facilitating the effective application of the latest technologies.
