HCSO’s product portfolio extended with new interactive interface

Hungary’s international relations in focus

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) expands its digital offer with a long-needed product. The aim of the interactive dashboard named ‘Hungary’s foreign relations’ is to present Hungary’s global and regional integration as well as its economic and social relations in a structured manner, easily receivable visually, too.

The new application provides a comprehensive picture of EU member states, as well as the most significant national economies beyond the Community, having comparable data. By means of the interface, one can exactly determine which countries have a key role in Hungary’s external trade, tourism or, through the domestic labour market and the presence of foreign capital, in the corporate sector.

‘In a global data deluge, HCSO’s tasks include not only collecting information but also presenting it clearly and at a strategic level. With this new interactive interface, we hand users a modern compass exactly outlining Hungary’s international economic and social relations, helping them understand the deeper context’ – as Dr. Áron Kincses, the President of HCSO pointed out the importance of the innovation.

The dashboard makes it possible to examine domestic data in regional and global contexts, since the interface exactly outlines Hungary’s exposure to external markets and structural exposure, giving substantial assistance to strategic and policy decision-makers’ work. HCSO’s expectations are that the application will become a primary source of reference for journalists, researchers as well as university students, for it provides quick, authentic and structured access to complex international data.

In planning the dashboard, the Office paid special attention to intuitive user experience. The countries to be examined can be chosen either from the drop-down menu at the top of the monitor or by directly clicking on the integrated interactive map. The system is based on two main pillars:

  • Country profile tab: where the most important socio-economic indicators of the chosen states are available.
  • Relations to Hungary tab: which section covers data and figures related specifically to Hungary. Within this, detailed information can be found on external trade, tourism trends, the weight of foreign-controlled enterprises operating in Hungary, as well as the distribution of foreign citizens living in Hungary (migration trends).

If using the ‘Hungary’s foreign relations’ dashboard, users, in addition to becoming familiar with the most important macro-economic and demographic trends in the different target countries, can follow up how these international trends can influence Hungary’s economic and social situation.

The application is available at HCSO’s website: Hungary’s foreign relations
