Dr. Áron Kincses becomes habilitated associate professor at the University of Miskolc

Dr. Áron Kincses, President of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO), received his habilitation diploma in a ceremonial setting at the University of Miskolc on 27 June 2025. The title of his scientific lecture presented during the habilitation procedure was: “Hungarian-Hungarian international migrations in the Carpathian Basin, with special regard to the past decade”. During the lecture, he described in detail the historical roots of Hungarian immigration from neighbouring countries and the social and economic factors that have given a new direction and impetus to this process in recent decades.

Dr. Áron Kincses has been working at the Hungarian Central Statistical Office since 2000 and has held his post as President since 11 June 2023. He obtained his PhD degree at the Doctoral School of Earth Sciences at Loránd Eötvös University and has been a Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences since 2023. His research areas include the study of international migration and migration networks.

During his more than two decades of career, he has participated in and held leading roles in numerous domestic and international research projects. He is engaged in extensive teaching activities. In addition to the University of Miskolc, he delivers lectures at several universities in Hungary, including the Budapest University of Economics and Business and the University of Óbuda, with an honorary professorship. He is also actively engaged in the work of a number of scientific bodies and professional organisations representing statistical science in Hungary.

The award of the title of habilitated associate professor is a recognition from the scientific community and further strengthens the theoretical grounding, practical applicability and social significance of the statistical profession.
