International Forum on Digital Transformation of National Statistical Systems
On 6–7 November 2025, Dr. Áron Kincses, President of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, attended the international forum entitled Digital Transformation of National Statistical Systems in Astana, which was organised to mark the 105th anniversary of the Bureau of National Statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The two-day event focused on the digital transformation of national statistical systems, data quality and value, and the use of new data sources and artificial intelligence. The speakers highlighted key directions for transforming statistical systems, highlighting the challenges related to data quality and increasing users’ need. In addition, the application of artificial intelligence in public administration, including data processing and publication, received considerable attention.
In his presentation, Dr. Kincses emphasized that, alongside traditional methods, the use of alternative data sources and machine learning plays an essential role in the production of official statistics today. Using a domestic example, he demonstrated how the adoption of new technology can render statistical organisations faster, more relevant, and more reliable. The forum provided an excellent opportunity for members of the international statistical community to share their practical experiences with the application of digitalization and to present concrete solutions to the challenges of modern data use.
