HCSO publications available for free download

The paid system is replaced by a free service for all

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) started the phase-out of the e-Shelf system at the same time as the publication of Hungary, 2024. The yearbooks and repositories previously published on the e-Shelf will be available to everyone on a new, user-friendly interface, free of charge and without registration.

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office will make its publications available free of charge in order to serve users' needs as fully as possible and to ensure open access to data and information.

The Office launched the e-Shelf system more than ten years ago, in August 2013, replacing the previous publications and publication supplements on CD-ROM.

New content will no longer be uploaded to e-Shelf from 2025, but previously purchased publications will remain available to users until 31 December 2026. All registered users will be notified of the change.

At the same time as the start of the phase-out of the e-Shelf system, a new sub-site (www.ksh.hu/hcso-yearbooks/) was launched on the HCSO website, offering free downloads of more than 400 yearbooks, pocketbooks and data repositories, a total of 100 thousand pages of publications in pdf format, nearly 150 thousand Excel spreadsheets and thousands of static and interactive graphs and maps.

The subpage allows you to filter yearbooks, pocketbooks and repositories by reference year, series name, format (PDF, XLS) and additional content (graphs, maps). Users have the possibility to create their own publication list of yearbooks, pocketbooks and data repositories of their interest.
